South Asia News Media Festival

Study Tour · Conference · New Delhi · July 19–22, 2027
News, in a few of South Asia’s languages

A quarter of the world.
The next chapter of news.

Home to a quarter of the world’s population, South Asia is at the centre of profound change in news media. The 2027 INMA South Asia News Media Festival will examine how publishers can stay closely connected to changing audience needs, create distinctive and relevant journalism, and build the business models needed not just to grow, but to endure.

This is where the region’s news leaders and operators come together to compare notes, challenge assumptions, contribute experience, learn from peers and ideate around what comes next for South Asian news media.

What the festival will explore

Four tracks
I.

AudiencesUnderstanding what matters now

How publishers can read changing behaviours more sharply, build stronger relationships, create habit, and stay relevant to the next generation of news consumers.

II.

NewsroomsMaking journalism distinctive

How editorial teams can sharpen content, strengthen originality and trust, and produce journalism that is useful, differentiated and worth returning to.

III.

MonetisationBuilding business models that work

How publishers are turning reach, relevance and engagement into revenue through advertising, reader revenue, transactions, commerce, events, licensing and new business models.

IV.

Technology & AutomationBuilding smarter news businesses

How AI, automation, data and technology are changing workflows, products, decision-making and the economics of running a modern media company.

A working forum, not just a showcase

Hear what is working. Question what is not.

The festival is designed as a working forum, not just a showcase. Participants will hear what is working, question what is not, contribute their own experience and leave with sharper thinking, practical ideas and new perspectives they can take back to their organisations. We’ll surface case-led answers to:

  1. How can publishers understand changing audience expectations earlier and respond with greater precision?
  2. What makes journalism distinctive, useful and difficult to replicate in an environment of abundant content?
  3. Which business models are beginning to show real promise, and what can others learn from them?
  4. Where are AI, automation and data creating meaningful gains in speed, efficiency, product and decision-making?
  5. What will the next phase of growth require from publishers in terms of strategy, structure and execution?
