Throughout its 86-year history, Long Island’s Newsday Media Group has been a prominent supporter of charitable organisations and community involvement.

In 2025, Newsday launched a new cause-marketing initiative: Together Long Island, a grassroots movement to bring companies, causes, and communities together to build a better Long Island.

Uniting a community

Together Long Island serves as a forum for celebrating community activism, corporate social responsibility, and charitable contribution.

Our goal was to shine the spotlight on the good works of Long Island’s for-profit and non-profit companies. In for-profit companies, acts of corporate social responsibility went largely unnoticed by the general public, often highlighted only in press releases and annual reports. Post-COVID, both donations and volunteerism were down among local non-profits.

Using power for positive influence

With our market reach, influence, and storytelling experience (through our Brand360 content studio), Newsday was uniquely qualified to raise awareness, convey information, and prompt a response among our audience.

Charitable alignment: We formed a partnership with the United Way of Long Island, a well-known 501(c) (3) charitable organisation, the cornerstone of the programme.

We were able to highlight their overarching mission and that of 45 of their individual community partners to help increase their exposure and, thereby, potential for donations.

An enterprise-wide commitment: The backbone of the Together Long Island programme is a dedicated channel on the navigation bar of the Newsday.com Web site.

The hub includes a landing page featuring stories from our partners, feel-good editorial on community issues, charitable causes, and individuals making a difference, and logos of our partners in the promotion that lead to their dedicated microsites.

The programme is widely promoted via Newsday-owned and operated brands in print and digital, as well as broadcast, social media, and local radio.

Custom content via a dedicated hub: Each partner gets a monthly content piece to tell their stories. Each of these “photolisticles” (a snackable format with large captions and images) includes prominent on-page branding, embedded video, live links, a persistent brand ad, vanity URL, calendars of events and/or location maps, and a strong call to action.

In addition, each partner receives a robust traffic-driving programme to bring consumers to their pages. Content is actively promoted for four to six weeks and then lives on the Brand360 site for another year. And, as with all Newsday’s branded content, each of our Together Long Island partners receives a thorough reporting of their performance in the programme.

Print promotion as well: In addition to the digital programme, Newsday offers two special-interest publications — one in April during Volunteer Month and another in November/December aligned with Giving Tuesday — as well as custom advertorials to help extend the reach of our partners’ philanthropic messages in print.

The initiative saw a successful first year, delivering both reach and impact for those participating.

Success story

Our first year of the Together Long Island campaign delivered reach and impact for our partners and made us top of mind for Long Island consumers. It also delivered substantial incremental revenue for the sales team.

In year two, we’ve seen renewals and new business sponsorships for Together Long Island 2026.
